Unfortunately, two expedition members did not summit: Al Hanna turned around last night, shortly after leaving Camp IV. Jeff Mathy turned back part way to Camp I last week due to illness.
Also summitting this morning: 1) National Geographic – Pete Athans, Brent Bishop, Peter Hillary, Dawa Sherpa with Kami Sherpa, Ang Rita Sherpa, Nima Tashi Sherpa, Dawa Suna Sherpa; 2) Italian – Alberto Magliano and Chuldim Nuru Sherpa; and, 3) Hungarian – Laszlo Varkonyi and Zsolt Eross – the first Hungarians to summit Everest. Congratulations guys!
We will keep everyone posted as the team makes their way back down to the South Col. The weather seems to be holding and all members are doing well. We will not rest easy here until everyone is down safely at Camp IV.
